Susan G. Manch

A founding principal of Shannon & Manch, LLP, Ms. Manch brings more than twenty-seven years of experience as a consultant, corporate marketing executive, group facilitator, and personal coach to her current projects. She uses her expertise in talent development to work with clients in developing project objectives, identifying appropriate strategies, and guiding all aspects of implementation. She consults with law firms and legal employers throughout the United States and abroad on issues related to lawyer recruitment, retention, mentoring, evaluation, and career development.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

As a consultant to legal employers, Ms. Manch has worked with law firms, corporations, and government offices on a full range of lawyer development issues. A frequent author and speaker, Ms. Manch is viewed as a leader in her field. In her corporate experience, she was responsible for the direction of the sales division of a national corporation. As a counselor and academician, she has had extensive experience in individual counseling and group facilitation. As a consultant, she has helped firms develop a competitive edge in supporting talent development as a critical business priority.

Specific expertise includes the following:
  • Consulting with legal employers on the effectiveness of policies and practices related to recruitment, retention, supervision, diversity, and performance appraisal
  • Creating and delivering tailored presentations to build project and performance management, communication, mentoring, and leadership skills among lawyers
  • Utilizing core competency development to integrate recruitment, training, and evaluation strategies into a comprehensive, coordinated approach to lawyer development
  • Assisting firms in the development of targeted initiatives to enhance diversity and support the advancement and retention of women lawyers
  • Designing firm retreat programs for partners, associates, practice groups, women lawyers, and firm directors that build both knowledge and relationships
  • Conducting customized upward reviews of supervising lawyers, firm leaders, and management committees
  • Helping firms and legal employers stay ahead of the curve on current trends and best practices in lawyer development in the global legal services market
BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Prior to becoming a principal in Shannon & Manch, LLP, Ms. Manch was a partner in the consulting firm of White Svikhart Shannon & Manch, and Senior Consultant and Director of Marketing with White Svikhart & Associates. Previously, she was the General Sales Manager for SYSCO Corporation. Her academic career included positions as counselor, assistant dean, and student affairs director at Georgetown University, The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and Trinity College.
