Amy Berenson Mallow

Amy Berenson Mallow is the Managing Director, West Coast for Shannon & Manch LLP. With over twelve years of experience in the career development field and as a former practicing attorney in both the private and public sectors, Ms. Mallow brings significant expertise in assisting attorneys with career-related issues. Ms. Mallow has provided individual counseling to law students and attorneys of all levels, presented a range of career development programs and workshops, and has consulted with law firms on topics including maximizing the effectiveness of their recruiting processes.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

Ms. Mallow's background in career development and as an attorney in both private and government practice provides her with a unique perspective and understanding regarding the legal marketplace, the job search process, and other career-related issues that attorneys confront. A graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, Ms. Mallow spent nine years as the Assistant Dean for Career Services at UCLA School of Law. She was also an Assistant Director in the Office of Career Services at Georgetown University Law Center, a litigation associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis and a staff attorney at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. Most recently, Ms. Mallow had her own legal consulting and recruiting business.

Her expertise includes the following:

  • Counseling attorneys on all aspects of the career development process.
  • Assisting attorneys in advancing professional goals within or outside their organization.
  • Providing guidance and creating strategies for making career transitions, exploring both legal and non-traditional settings.
  • Evaluating cover letters, resumes and other job search material.
  • Assisting with the interview process, including developing an interview strategy and conducting mock interviews.
  • Designing programs and creating print materials related to all phase of career development.
  • Presenting career-related programs and skills workshops to attorneys in small and large group settings.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

As Assistant Dean for Career Services at UCLA School of Law, Ms. Mallow restructured and managed the office, and implemented many new initiatives, including receptions and programs for students and alumni as well as novel counseling approaches. She worked with attorneys at all levels in a variety of different settings. She created and conducted presentations for a range of legal employers and assisted firms with their campus visibility and hiring needs. Ms. Mallow also devised and implemented strategies for employer outreach to increase opportunities in the private, public and non-profit sectors for students and alumni.

Prior to joining UCLA, Ms. Mallow worked in the Office of Career Services at Georgetown University Law Center. As the first counselor designated for the evening division students, she developed initiatives specifically responsive to their needs, including marketing plans, career-related programs, print materials and counseling strategies. As a practicing attorney, Ms. Mallow was a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis and a staff attorney in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. Most recently, Ms. Mallow was the founder and principal member of her own legal recruiting and consulting firm.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS/PUBLICATIONS

Ms. Mallow has spoken at regional and national conferences for the National Association for Law Placement, the American Bar Association, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Los Angeles Area Legal Recruitment Association and other organizations. She also taught a three hour CLE course on Alternatives to Private Practice and has written articles for the National Law Journal.

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS

Ms. Mallow is a member of the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania Bars, the American Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. She was formerly Vice-President of the Los Angeles Area Legal Recruitment Association and Treasurer of the National Association for Law Placement.
