Lynne Simoneau Coonan
Adjunct Career Advisor

Lynne has almost fifteen years of experience in the field of attorney employment. Lynne’s background includes lateral attorney hiring with national, international, and boutique law firms at the associate and partner level and for in-house counsel positions with corporations. Lynne founded her own search firm with an emphasis on the law firm market and in-house positions. Previously, she worked in the Palo Alto office of a legal search firm, as well as in the D.C. office of a national legal recruitment company that focused on placing experienced temporary attorneys. Lynne is a former Director of Legal Career Services at Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C.

Lynne received her J.D. in 1992 and her B.A. in 1985 from The Catholic University of America.

Adjunct Career Advisor

Terri has over 25 years of experience managing all facets of Human Resources including professional and organizational development. In 2007, she started her own consulting practice focused on increasing diversity in private law firms. Through her practice, she assists clients in recruiting attorneys and senior managers, strategic planning, change management and diversity related conflict resolution. Before starting her practice, she was the Chief Operating Officer of a major Washington, DC firm. In addition to working in a legal setting, Terri has work experience from management consulting, banking and in the Carter White House. Throughout her career, she has had responsibility for the development of professionals across disciplines and has been particularly successful in coaching professionals interested in transitioning their careers from one area of specialty to another.

She received graduate training at Harvard and Howard Universities and has a BS in Business Administration from Southeastern University.

Jody Greenspan
Adjunct Career Advisor

Ms. Greenspan has more than twenty years of experience in the areas of legal career counseling, law school administration, career and transition counseling, attorney recruitment and education administration and accreditation consulting. Ms Greenspan served as the Senior Assistant Dean of a national law school for 15 years, served as the Director of Recruitment and Placement at a top tier law school, and was a founding member and Executive Advisory Council member of PSLawNet. Additionally, Ms. Greenspan practiced law at two boutique law firms, specializing in large corporate litigation, arts law, and bankruptcy law. She was also an adjunct law professor and senior lecturer and taught classes at NYU’s School for Continuing Education and Illinois and multi-state CLE courses.

Ms. Greenspan has a J.D. from Boston College and an A.B. from Smith College.

Adjunct Career Advisor

Marcia E. Heister is an executive coach, consultant, and former practicing attorney in the private and corporate sector, with 25 years experience in private practice, beginning practice with a national law firm and later serving as general counsel of several public and private companies. She created the general counsel function at several of these companies. Marcia brings significant expertise in assisting attorneys and executives on an individual basis with career development, goal setting and accomplishment, communication, interpersonal skills and professional effectiveness. In addition, Marcia has served as a legal management consultant in the areas of law department development, operations and evaluation and client relationship programs.

Marcia holds a J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law, and a B.A. from Hood College. She has been designated a Certified Master Coach by the Behavioral Coaching Institute and is a member of the International Coaching Council.

Joan Newman
Adjunct Career Advisor

Joan Newman is a consultant providing individualized coaching and group training to law firm partners and associates on professional and leadership skills necessary to succeed in the highly competitive legal market. Joan coaches participants in leadership development programs and she is certified as a Master Coach from the Behavioral Coaching Institute. Prior to becoming a consultant, Joan was a senior partner at Thompson Coburn LLP, the largest law firm in St. Louis, where she chaired the Firm’s Employee Benefits Practice Group and was a member of the Firm’s Management Committee responsible for associate training and development. After practicing law for more than 30 years, she founded her consulting firm, Joan Newman & Associates. She has written articles in The Journal of the Association of Legal Administrators (Legal Management Magazine) and The American Lawyer.

Joan holds a J.D. and a Masters in Tax Law from Washington University School of Law and a B.A .degree from Case-Western Reserve University.

Natasha Patel
Adjunct Career Advisor

Prior to joining Shannon and Manch, Natasha Patel served as Interim Dean/Director at Columbia Law School Office of Career Services. During this time, she:
  • Designed and presented career related programming involving alumni and professionals.
  • Developed career development resources for alumni and students.
  • Counseled alumni on career transitions.
  • Conducted both group and individual resume critiques and mock interviews.
  • Advised student groups on career paths and programming.
  • Represented Columbia on the New York City Bar Committee for Recruitment and Retention of Lawyers (aka "Diversity Committee")
As part of the City Bar, chair the subcommittee on retention, and conducted interviews for diversity fellowship selection.

She is a native of Georgia, earning her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia. She ventured west for law school, graduating from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. She worked as litigation associate at Morrison and Foerster in the Bay Area and then at Pryor Cashman in New York. She then worked as a staff attorney at Cravath Swine & Moore. Afterward, she earned her Master's degree in Psychology at Columbia, where she focused on both counseling and organizational psychology. She continues to serve as a consultant to Columbia Law School.


Alissa Riba
Adjunct Career Advisor

Prior to joining Shannon & Manch, Ms. Riba was a Career Manager with Nixon Peabody LLP where she provided career counseling and mentoring to incoming and outgoing counsel and associates. In addition, Ms. Riba was the Assistant Director of Career Services at New England School of Law where she specialized in working with individual clients at all stages of their career with special attention to public interest career advising.

Alissa holds a J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Union College.


Doug Richardson
Adjunct Career Advisor

Following his early legal career as a large firm litigator and federal prosecutor, over the next 35 years Doug Richardson built a strong national reputation in outplacement, career consulting/development and vocational assessment. Doug was one of the founding Principals of Manchester, Inc., which became the second largest career management firm in the US, and he later served as Director of Key Executive Services for Right Management Consultants, working exclusively with C-level executives and lawyers.

Doug is known for his particular expertise in leadership development and career management with lawyers. For over 20 years he was an award-winning columnist for Dow Jones' National Business Employment Weekly and its online successor, Career Journal. He presently is a featured contributor to the "Leadership Dimension" column of Altman Weil's Report to Legal Management. He also is the author of Dow Jones' NBEW Premier Guide to Networking and Haiku Talks Business (Bala Creative Group).

Doug is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Harvard Law School. He holds a Masters Degree from the Penn's Annenberg School of Communications, and he is a Certified Master Coach.

Deborah Katz Solomon
Adjunct Career Advisor

Deborah Katz Solomon is an executive coach who specializes in professional development, leadership and marketing coaching for lawyers in both the public and private sectors. Deborah works with attorneys at all levels of experience and her coaching practice is international in scope.

Prior to becoming an executive coach, Deborah practiced law with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in New York and Washington, D.C., where her practice focused on antitrust and class action litigation. Deborah is the founder of Acuity Legal Consulting LLC, and she has been featured as a speaker for AmLaw 100 law firms, the National Bar Association, and Yale Law School. Her article, “From Antitrust Lawyer to Executive Coach,” was published in the June 2007 issue of the ABA’s Law Practice Magazine.

Deborah received her B.A. from Duke University and her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School, where she was Student Writing Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. She holds a certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University and is a member of the International Coaching Federation.

Adjunct Career Advisor

Prior to joining Shannon and Manch, Maureen was a Director at Stanford Law School's Office of Career Services.  She has vast experience navigating lawyers through an individualized job search, starting with a self-assessment of their interests and skills, all the way to negotiating a job offer.  Maureen presented workshops on networking, writing resumes and cover letters, and interview skills.  Maureen worked closely with the recruiting managers of private firms, non-profit organizations and government agencies, and was a member of the Association of Legal Career Professionals and the Bay Area Legal Recruiting Association.  Maureen has a deep interest in helping attorneys make career decisions best suited to their skills, background and personality.    
  
Maureen holds a JD degree from UC Hastings and her B.A. in History and Political Science from UC San Diego.

June Lim
Adjunct Career Advisor

June has over 25 years of experience in the field of employment and career counseling.  She spent most of that time as the Associate Director of the Career Center at San Jose State University.  Her responsibilities included strategic planning, employer relations, program planning and overall supervision of the counseling staff.  She worked with students, alumni and faculty in career transition.  June has spoken at Santa Clara Law School discussing career decision making and job search strategies.  She has extensive experience with interpreting assessment tools (such as the MBTI and Strong Campbell) as well as many other instruments.  June is passionate about career counseling and empowering people to find their greatest potential. 

June holds a BA in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California at Davis and a MS in Counseling (emphasis in educational and career counseling) from California State University at Sacramento.

Beth Roemer
Adjunct Career Advisor

Beth Roemer is a professional coach, consultant, and former practicing attorney. She has 25 years experience in private practice, beginning practice with a top tier regional law firm and later serving as general counsel of several public and private companies. Beth brings significant expertise in assisting attorneys and executives on an individual basis with career development, interpersonal skills and professional effectiveness. Beth serves as a consultant to Stanford Law School in connection with its program of interdisciplinary education.

Beth holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, an M.A. from Princeton University, and an M.A. from the Professional School of Psychology. She holds certificates from several coaching institutes, including the International Coaching Federation, and is the founder of Access Coaching.

Diane Schaefer
Adjunct Career Advisor

Diane Schaefer offers a unique perspective in attorney coaching and career counseling. Diane is an ardent proponent of branding and positioning in the context of one’s career, and she advocates that anyone can market him or herself into a viable position if they find the right niche.

Diane worked as an attorney in New York with prominent international law firms including Clearly Gottlieb and Weil Gotshal before transitioning to a position as Managing Director of one of the top attorney recruiting firms in the country. Diane ultimately founded her own specialized niche marketing firm, Resume Ipsa Loquitur, where she provides coaching, career counseling, interview preparation, and resume and marketing services to attorneys in transition, and more recently, Attorney Dossier, a marketing and branding firm that produces web sites, blogs, web content, press releases, and advertising and marketing materials for solo practitioners and small law firms.

Diane graduated magna cum laude from Union College with a B.A. in American Studies and she received her J.D. from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. In her free time, Diane enjoys discovering new artists and art works, in particular the genre of paintings within paintings.
