Shannon & Manch offers a variety of training seminars and workshops on topics related to lawyer development, including advancement and retention of women, diversity competence, mentoring, feedback, supervision, and leadership. To promote the highest level of learning among your lawyers, we work closely with you to tailor content and workshop materials. We offer seminars that are lecture-style, interactive, or a combination of both and include active learning activities, small group work, and case study discussion. We have conducted training sessions for lawyers at all levels of seniority, in firms large and small, throughout the United States and abroad. Many of our workshops have been approved for MCLE credit within the category of Practice Management.

Representative Presentations

Developing an Effective Mentoring Relationship:
This program helps mentors get off to a good start in their mentoring relationships with junior lawyers. Focusing on communication skills, career guidance, and other elements of a successful advising role, participants will gain perspective on their roles as mentors.

Taking Control of Your Career:
In this highly interactive workshop, junior and mid-level associates share information and learn to begin planning a successful career path. The goal is to inform and inspire associates so they will make more active use of mentoring and other developmental supports.

A Developmental Approach to Performance Management:
This workshop is designed for supervisory lawyers who want to hone performance management strategies and techniques. Based on a case study model, this program takes participants through the five core supervisory functions and encourages active discussion of existing challenges.

Interviewer Skills Training:
Even seasoned interviewers find they can benefit from a refresher course in interviewing skills. Those new to your recruiting team will find this workshop extremely useful in preparation for on-campus, callback, or lateral hiring interviews.

Conducting Effective Associate Reviews:
Performance reviews are always a challenge. This seminar, tailored to your firm’s unique process and policies, focuses attention on crafting and delivering a developmental message on individual performance in a way that maintains a motivation to achieve.

Recalibrating the Scale:
Lawyers now face unprecedented demands on their time with technology and client demands for immediacy creating an ever faster pace of work. This focused, interactive session taps the combined experiences of the lawyers in the room and a leading expert in the field of work-life balance in law firms to arrive at practical strategies for achieving and maintaining balance.
